My Year of Self-Improvement

Image
This year, my " New Year, New Me " is a complete shift in priorities. I am tired of letting shyness deny me opportunities, and poor time management has been a constant challenge in my academic progress. This is the year where everything is supposed to change for me, and I will continue working on not being shy anymore and working on getting better study habits and taking more calculated risks to reap rewards. I will going to stop helping those people who take advantage of my good nature, i learned that from my past experiences. I will not stop experimenting on everything because of what happened and because of my willingness to learn. Lastly, I will begin saving money for independence from money matters.  Overcoming shyness includes class participation, looking for people to hang out with, and doing stuff out of comfort zones. I will improve my study habits by creating a detailed schedule to prioritize assignments with time for breaks. Such experience in the past made me rea...

Simple Joys, Sweet Memories

Image
Last Christmas was extra special because we celebrated with our complete family. We didn't travel far, choosing instead the warmth and comfort of our own home. The day was filled with the joyful preparations and anticipation that only a family gathering can bring. The air buzzed with excitement as we decorated our home and prepared for a delicious feast. The simple act of being together, sharing laughter and stories, created a magical atmosphere that made this Christmas truly memorable. We knew it would be a day filled with love, laughter, and the delicious aromas of our favorite dishes. We started by arranging a beautiful display of fresh fruits on the table – mangoes, bananas, and oranges etc. A colorful and appetizing centerpiece. Then, the cooking began! Mom's famous suman, a sweet sticky rice dish, filled the kitchen with its irresistible aroma. Alongside the suman, we prepared a classic Filipino Christmas spread: spaghetti, pancit, and Shanghai rolls. The kitch...

Second Quarter Journey

Image
In the second quarter, I learned about tags in HTML and how to use them in general. Of course, now it became possible for me to understand most of the main ones: <html>, <head>, <body>, paragraph tags, heading tags, image tags <img>, link tags, table tags, etc. It facilitated understanding of the basic HTML document structure and functionality; also all these different tags combined construct a web page. It expanded my knowledge about semantic HTML, which is imperative to any product's accessibility. Two main challenges of the second quarter i encounter. There were two key ones for me. First, disaster. Group 1s Flash Drive broke or, as someone says, it gets infested with a virusvariety of activity files lost, source code. Really caused disruption of the course work. Second, individual level myself: I tend to go on very slow typing &coding, which reduces effectiveness. At times, just made impossible to complete what needs to be done, because there was no ...

THEMATIC OUTPUT: Violence Against Women (VAW)

Image
Laws Against Violence against Women by Philippine Laws There have always been several laws that would end up combating violence against women. It is one social issue around the world being battled with millions of those involved. This paper looks to consider two of the pieces of legislation that stand supreme- Republic Act No. 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997), Republic Act No. 10364: Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2013. These are two laws with differing emphases but work in tandem for one another to combat VAW because it is just complex. Republic Act No. 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 takes sexual violence a head on. It comprehensively defined rape in different kinds of attacks of sexuality against women and stipulates a heavy punishment against an offender. The value it gives does not only reside in its penal provisions but also on the provision of legal protection and assistance it offers to survivors. Rape, to deter while at ...

Elpidio Quirino: A Legacy of Leadership and Controversy

Image
Elpidio Quirino    Elpidio Quirino was the Philippines' sixth president and a somewhat complex figure in the annals of the Philippines but still very interesting. He was born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, with great credentials to make the cornerstone of an incredibly accomplished career in public service. He attended law school at the University of the Philippines, which had an impact greatly on the work he undertook for the country. His career path was gradual progression, epitomizing his political acumen and commitment to public service.  Before he gained national prominence, he was already a pillar in local government.  He proved himself an excellent leader.  Involvement with the Nacionalista Party and, later, election as senator indicated growth in power and influence. He gained valuable experience as vice-president under Manuel Roxas, preparing him for the trials the presidency would bring. When Quirino assu...

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines: Respect and Understanding

Image
"Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalana" (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge).  Every October, the Philippines celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Month! This year is extra special because it's the 27th anniversary of a very important law: the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA).  The theme is all about showing how much we value indigenous people and their amazing knowledge: "Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalana" (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge).  This will be devoted to ensuring that everyone knows about and respects the rights of indigenous people.  The populations present in the Philippines for many generations have their own unique cultures, languages, and traditions.  These special things are being remembered and celebrated during Indigenous Peoples Month.  It's a time to learn about...

Climate Change and the Resiliency of Filipinos

Image
Facing the Storm of Climate Change Climate change is real and makes life hard for most Filipinos. First of all, there's  this "greenhouse effect," whereby gases such as carbon dioxide trap heat from the sun, thus warming up the earth. These gases are emitted through our burning of fossil fuels, primarily oil and coal - for energy as well as due to the chopping of trees and some farming patterns. This trapped heat upsets weather patterns, hence bringing more extreme and unpredictable changes to the weather. To Filipinos, it brings typhoons striking without warning and more powerful than ever; floods with rains that weigh much heavier and take away homes and lives; and droughts that are longer, harsher, drier, parching the lands and driving crops away. These have made it even worse for people and the environment to grow food, obtain clean water, or protect their homes and livelihoods. This climate has increased the frequency and intensi...
